Plan Your Hocking Hills Getaway
Recommended Places to Visit at Hocking Hills
Little Kids and Up
Ash Cave: The scenery is breathtaking. Not only can you explore caves but there is a waterfall at the end of the trail. This trail is extremely easy for kids, pets and parents to walk. The kids love sliding down a natural slide and walking by the waterfall.
Muddy Boots: An interactive farm experience where the kids pet and feed animals. This outdoor activity features feeding rabbits all the way to camels. We found a neat pond on the farm as well and the kids loved pointing out the fish.
AHA Museum: With over 60 hands-on exhibits, children from 6 months to 8 years of age can become explorers, scientists, engineers, and artists. The Raymond B. Martens Nature playscape is open year round for you to discover Ohio's natural beauty through all seasons. This museum is located in Lancaster (about 30 minutes from Hocking Hills).
Lake Logan Marina: We rented a pontoon and the kids fished and swam in the lake. There are many options of what to rent including: pontoons, stand up paddleboats, kayaks, and duck, swan or dragon paddleboats.
Hocking Hills Adventures: Choose a trip down the river in a canoe or kayak from two to five hours. Take a trip in a raft or tube. There is a splash pad as well!
Hocking Valley Scenic Railway: Take a historic and memorable train ride starting in Nelsonville. They run weekends from May through October. Also, look for the Easter Bunny Train, Robbery Train, All-Caboose Train, October Fall Foliage, Santa Trains, and New Year’s Eve Train. Check for reservations and book your adventure today!
Hocking Hills Market: My kids insist on stopping for ice cream here at least once during our stay. We love browsing the shops, playing mini golf, and trying out the rocking chairs. It’s a fun place to explore!
Older Kids and Adults:
R Adventure Park: There are so many activities at this recreational wonderland! Choose from paintball, ropes course, Moonshiner’s Mystery Shack, and a vertigo tunnel. If that’s not enough, you can even go on a motorized experience in a two or four seat Polaris 1000’s and the Hocking Hills Slingshot experience. Just writing about this makes me want to go right now!
The Spotted Horse Ranch: They offer guided horseback riding, camping with or without horses, a party or wedding venue, and livestock including water buffalo. They offer one-hour rides which are great for younger children, two-hour rides, and even a cowboy cookout ride.
Explore Old Mans Cave and surrounding areas: Hocking Hills has it all: waterfalls, rock houses, caves, and so much natural beauty all around. Check out these trails and decide which ones you want to explore! Experience natural beauty at its best by hiking through Rock House, Cantwell Cliffs, Cedar Falls, Conkle’s Hollow and much more!
Ziplining at Hocking Hills Canopy Tours: This summer my kids were finally the right age and weight for ziplining. Participants must weigh between 35 and 140 pounds and be 5 to 12 years old for the Dragonfly Tour. This zipline includes eight kid-friendly zip lines, three bridges and a sky tunnel. This tour was super safe due to the fact that the zipline boasts a continuous belay safety system, so they stay connected from start to finish. Make sure to wear closed toed shoes. This experience was my kid’s favorite activity we did all summer! Check restrictions before booking!
John Glenn Astronomy Park: During the day visitors can get a view of the closest star to the Earth! In the evening, guests will get a chance to view the moon, planets and star through a telescope. View their website for additional information on hours and days.
Other Places We Enjoy:
Hocking Hills Winery: This family-owned winery is the perfect setting for an evening to relax and unwind! My husband and I celebrated our tenth anniversary here and still talk about it! We had an appetizer plate (very accommodating to my food allergy and brought gluten free pretzels.) We listened to music while sampling wine.
Millstone BBQ: One of our family favorites! I love the menu (plenty of Gluten free options.) The kids and husband love the corn muffins that come out before the meal. The food is delicious. My non-loving turkey husband swears by their smoked turkey. The atmosphere is fun and we cannot wait to go back!
Pizza Crossing: We always order this yummy pizza and everyone devours it! We usually order it and pick up. I enjoy the Gluten Free pizza and the kids love the pizza and bread!
Brewery 33: Choose from 14 handcrafted beers and growlers. They offer snacks and offer the option of ordering in from delicious nearby restaurants.
HELP! IT’S RAINING!
Wind Chime Shop: Browse this beautiful shop with over 200 0 chimes at any time.

Rocky Outlet Store: Find boots just for you!
Hocking Hills Paint Parties: They offer a variety of affordable ways to enjoy painting. Reserve a private session in our studio, book a traveling party.
Hocking Hills Serenity Salt Cave: You need only 45 minutes to feel completely refreshed! They use salt from the Himalayas and an incredible Halotherapy session. Book an appointment at their salt cave in Logan, Ohio.
